Respondus LockDown Browser

Setting up LockDown Browser at a testing center location

Testing center staff can require Respondus LockDown Browser for a location. When this is enabled, students with reservations in that location take their exams in LockDown Browser on the location's computers.

The setting lives on the location, not on each session. Center-associated sessions inherit the location's LockDown Browser setting automatically — there is no per-session toggle for center sessions.

Installing LockDown Browser on testing center computers

The lab installer is for managed testing center computers — shared kiosk-style machines that students sit at on exam day. Respondus only provides a Windows lab installer.

The regular installers can be found on the student docs.

Enable LockDown Browser for a location

  1. Confirm that LockDown Browser is installed on the location's computers (use the lab installer above).
  2. Coordinate with course staff so students know that the exam requires LockDown Browser.
  3. Open the location's Settings page, find LockDown Browser, click edit, and turn it on.

Testing before exam day

Before a high-stakes exam, run a practice reservation in the location and confirm that a student can open the reservation from PrairieTest, click Open in LockDown Browser, and reach the exam inside LockDown Browser on a location computer.
