Reporting suspected cheating during an exam
If you see someone breaking exam rules, you may be able to send a report to exam staff through PrairieLearn. For example, you might report someone unfairly using a phone or unauthorized materials.
You are not responsible for monitoring other students and should remain focused on your own exam. If you happen to observe something that concerns you, you may privately describe it to exam staff.
The Report cheating button appears at the top of the PrairieLearn exam page when reporting is available. It is shown only while you have access to the exam and only when the course or testing center has enabled this feature.
Submit a report
- Select Report cheating.
- In What did you see?, describe what you observed. Include useful details such as what happened, when it happened, and where the person was sitting. Describe only what you saw and avoid guessing about the person's intent.
- Select Submit report and wait for the confirmation message.
Who can see the report
For a course-run exam, all staff for the course can view your report. For an exam run by a testing center, all staff for the testing center can view it. Other students cannot see it.
The report is not anonymous. Staff can see your name and the exam session in which the report was submitted. For some in-person exams, they may also see where you were seated. Staff may contact you afterward if they need more information.
After submitting
Staff will review the report according to the course, testing center, and institution's policies. Submitting a report does not automatically determine that another student cheated.
You cannot edit or withdraw a submitted report from the exam page. If you need to correct something, contact the course or testing center staff.
Use Report cheating only to report suspected violations of exam rules. If you need help with a question, experience a technical problem, or need immediate assistance, instead contact a proctor or use the usual help option for your exam.
