Reserving at a remote testing center
Some courses let you reserve an exam seat at a remote testing center at a different university or institution. This gives you more options for where and when to take your exam.
Home and serving testing centers
- Home center: the testing center that runs your exam. It controls the exam settings, your time-limit extension, and your accommodations.
- Serving center: the testing center where you take the exam.
For an ordinary reservation these are the same testing center. When you reserve at another testing center, your home center still owns the exam configuration while the serving center provides the seat.
Choosing where to reserve
- From the
Homepage, find your exam under Exams available for reservations and clickMake a reservation. - If reserving at another testing center is available for your exam, you will see a
Reserve throughmenu at the top of the available sessions. My testing centersis selected by default and shows the sessions at your own course and local testing centers.- Each additional entry is a remote testing center you can reserve through, labeled with the testing center and its institution.
- Pick the testing center you want and click
Show. The available sessions there load below. - Click
Reserve this sessionon the session you want, just like an ordinary reservation.
You can switch back to My testing centers at any time to compare with sessions at your own testing centers. You can only hold one reservation per exam, so reserving a new session replaces any previous one.
These remote testing centers are discovered from the exam reservation page itself — there is no separate page to browse testing centers. If you don't see a Reserve through menu, your exam isn't set up for reserving at another testing center; contact your instructor if you think it should be.
Check your reservation details
Your reservation is the source of truth for where and when to take your exam. After reserving, confirm on the Home page that the testing center, location, date, time, and duration are what you expect — they can differ from your course's usual testing center. If anything looks wrong, contact your instructor or the testing center staff before your exam.
Accommodations at a remote testing center
Your accommodations are defined at your home center and are carried over to the remote testing center where possible. Because each testing center maintains its own list of accommodations:
- An accommodation that the remote testing center provides is applied to your reservation and shown in the usual way.
- An accommodation that the remote testing center does not provide is listed under
Not available at this testing centeron the session and on your reservation. This is only a heads-up about that testing center — it does not remove the accommodation from your exam or from reservations at your own testing centers.
If an accommodation you need shows as not available at a testing center, choose a different one from the Reserve through menu or contact your instructor.
Taking your exam
Take your exam through the serving testing center on the scheduled date and time, following the normal process for that session type — see In-person exams or Online Zoom exams. Your reservation on the Home page shows the serving center along with the location or online session details, so you know where to go or how to connect.
